Christmas is rapidly approaching us, the high streets have been decorated, the Christmas lights are up and the busiest shopping period of the year is getting underway with the ‘unofficial’ start of the shopping season today for retailers.
This means longer hours for Retail staff with extra pressure on Store Managers and Assistant Managers to maintain customer service levels and standards in their stores with the increase in trade. For some retailers this is the ‘golden weeks’ of the year with some retailers generating up to 50% of their annual sales in Nov/Dec/Jan. Toy retailers such as ‘The Entertainer’ can be some of the busiest stores on the high street.
We asked some Store Managers about what kept them motivated during this period and the resounding answer we got was the buzz of putting money in the till, hitting and exceeding their targets and the general focus on helping customers find the right presents and the satisfaction of helping them.
We also asked the Store Managers how they kept their team motivated in this period, one key response kept on popping up, fun… creating a fun and positive working environment where everyone felt part of the team, this was achieved through a variety of methods such as mini competitions and games but ultimately in all members of the team taking pride in helping customers
