School vacancies few and far between

In a recent interview on BBC Radio 5, the Managing Director of Data for Education – Professor John Howson gave a gloomy prediction regarding the amount of school vacancies available in the education system.

According to recent figures, 34,500 teachers applied for only 1,500 school vacancies last year and the figures are set to get much worse. Professor Howson went on to confirm that a shortage of teaching posts and an increase in teachers was the main cause of the issue however, the problem doesn’t look to be getting dealt with any time soon unless the Government takes a much more active interest in providing a solution to the problem.
